AFTER YOUR ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IS COMPLETED

-Each tooth has a ligament and can be considered a joint of the body. Just as it takes time for a shoulder or knee surgery to feel/function normally again, a tooth takes time to feel/function normally following root canal treatment.

-If a permanent filling was not placed, a temporary filling has been placed to seal your tooth. It is stable, however, temporary. Please chew crunchy/sticky foods on the other side. Please remember to see your dentist for a core build up (filling) and/or crown ASAP or within 30 days.

-The tooth and its surrounding gum tissues may be somewhat tender for several days due to manipulation during treatment, and also the condition with which you came to the office. Preop pain is correlated with experiencing postop pain.

-It is normal to experience soreness following a root canal. Ibuprofen (600 mg every 4 hr., not to exceed four doses in 24 hrs.) and Acetaminophen (1000 mg every 4 hr., not to exceed three doses in 24 hrs.) taken together are usually adequate for any soreness you may experience. If you experience pain that is not controlled by nonprescription drugs, please do not hesitate to contact us.

-Do not be surprised if you cannot eat with this tooth for a few days. However, use the tooth as soon as you can since function makes for more rapid healing. Brush your teeth as usual.

-Should severe pain, swelling, and/or fever develop, please call the office right away. Remember, we are as near as your telephone.

-Failure to have this root canal treatment completed and promptly restored (getting the build-up and crown placed) could result in loss of this tooth.
